In the realm of structural fabrication and perimeter security systems, the combination of a steel post and its base plate represents a fundamental building block, the integrity of which dictates the stability and longevity of the entire assembly. Conventionally, these two components are engineered and fabricated as a single, welded unit, transforming separate elements into a monolithic structural node. This integrated approach is superior to field-assembled bolted connections for critical applications, as it ensures perfect alignment, maximizes load transfer efficiency, and creates a connection whose strength often exceeds that of the individual members. The steel post, typically a square or rectangular hollow section (SHS/RHS) or an I-beam, acts as the primary vertical load-bearing member, resisting bending moments and axial forces. The steel base, a plate of calculated thickness and dimensions, serves as the critical interface that distributes these concentrated loads from the post evenly into the concrete foundation or supporting structure through anchor bolts.The welded joint between the column and base must possess enduring and reliable strength. Based on the customer's drawings and specifications, we selected steel plate grades and thicknesses that meet the required standards. Subsequently, the base plate was precisely cut from the steel plate using a laser cutting system. This technology not only ensures accurate dimensional precision but also enables high-precision cutting of anchor bolt holes and various notches or grooves with strict tolerance requirements. This eliminates the need for secondary drilling operations, ensuring flawless on-site assembly. Simultaneously, steel column segments are precisely cut to specified lengths. Where designs call for plate-fabricated columns (e.g., custom-sized box sections), CNC press brakes precisely form the steel, strictly controlling angles while minimizing deformation. Welding is the core process in manufacturing. After precise alignment, columns are spot-welded to the center point of the base plate using specialized fixtures. Certified welders then execute continuous, fully penetrated fillet or groove welds around the entire circumference of the column-to-base plate joint.We employ MIG or FCAW processes due to their deep penetration and high deposition rates, ensuring welds with exceptional strength that fully fuse the two components. For critical applications or specific material grades, we may utilize submerged arc welding (SAW) for its superior quality and consistency. Following welding, components typically undergo stress relief treatment and cleaning, followed by durable surface finishes such as hot-dip galvanizing or industrial-grade powder coating to provide long-term corrosion protection.
