Q: What do KRA, KRB, KRD and LRA, LRB, LRD stand for?
A: These are ordinary-strength hull structural steel grades certified by the Korean Register (KR) and Lloyd's Register (LR) respectively. The letters A, B, and D indicate the toughness level: Grade A has no mandatory impact requirement; Grade B is impact-tested at 0 °C; Grade D is impact-tested at –20 °C. The prefixes KR and LR identify the issuing classification society.
Q: Can you cut or chamfer marine steel plates based on our hull layout drawings?
A: Yes. We can provide laser cutting services based on your DXF/DWG layout files. In addition, we offer bending, welding, edge chamfering (V-type, X-type, Y-type and K-type chamfers), drilling, sandblasting and primer coating services. The steel plates we deliver are ready for immediate assembly and welding at the shipyard.
Q: What are the minimum order quantities and lead times?
A: For Grade A standard-sized products, the minimum order quantity for each specification is typically 1 tonne. For Grade B/D or non-standard-sized products, we recommend ordering between 5 and 10 tonnes per specification. The lead time for stock items is usually 7 to 15 days, whilst the lead time for newly rolled or normalised products is 20 to 40 days. The exact delivery date will be confirmed in the pro forma invoice.
Q: Do you provide Z-direction property plates for critical welded joints?
A: Yes. For highly restrained thick-section joints (e.g., hatch coamings, heavy girder webs), we can supply through-thickness ductility grades Z25 or Z35 per EN 10164 / ASTM A770, subject to technical review and minimum order quantity.
