Q: When should I choose flame cutting over laser cutting for my parts?
A: Flame (oxy-fuel) cutting is the economical choice for carbon steel plate thicker than 25 mm and becomes the only practical choice above 50 mm, where laser power requirements escalate exponentially. Flame cutting also produces a natural bevel-ready edge and handles heavily scaled hot-rolled plate without surface preparation. For thin sheet under 6 mm or parts requiring ±0.1 mm precision, laser or stamping is preferred.
Q: What is the difference between your stamping service and your brake press bending service?
A: Stamping uses hardened dies and a mechanical or hydraulic press to produce high-volume parts with complex 3D features—embossments, louvers, deep draws, and progressive-formed geometries—in a single hit or progression. Brake press bending uses a punch and die set along a linear axis to create angles, channels, and boxes, and is ideal for low-to-medium volumes, large parts, and prototypes where die cost is not justified. We select the most cost-effective route based on your annual volume and part geometry.
Q: Can flame-cut parts be bent or stamped afterward?
A: Generally, yes—provided the material grade and thickness are suitable for forming. Flame cutting introduces a small heat-affected zone (HAZ) along the edge, but for most structural bends, this does not prevent cold forming. For precision bends on thick flame-cut blanks, we may grind the cut edge to remove HAZ hardness and ensure clean bend radii. We evaluate this on a case-by-case basis during quoting.
