To ensure the quality of carbon and stainless steel cutting, several control steps must be performed to ensure that the parts meet the accuracy requirements. Laser scanners and coordinate measuring machines can be used to check accuracy based on input CAD data. Visual inspection and surface roughness measurement ensure that the quality of the cut edges meets the requirements of the application. For critical components, additional tests are performed, such as metallographic analysis of the heat-affected zone, microhardness testing, and corrosion resistance testing.The finished components are treated using various secondary methods depending on the application requirements: removal of sharp edges, grinding to achieve a specific surface roughness, heat treatment to change the properties of the material, or surface treatment to increase corrosion resistance or improve aesthetic appearance. Carbon steel components are usually coated with a protective layer, e.g., galvanization, powder coating, or hot-dip galvanizing, to prevent rust.
